As an experienced entrepreneurial leader, a passionate advocate for small business, and a business owner himself; Tom intimately understands the incredible significance of entrepreneurship to our economy and culture. He has broad-based experience in both the business and academic sectors with unique expertise in building consensus across multiple stakeholders in the university, community, business and public sectors. Results are driven by strong P&L management and by building a team focused on finding innovative solutions that result in “win-win” outcomes for a broad group of constituents that frequently have diverse and competing needs.

His professional journey began in the over two decades that he spent in his family business where he built a foundation of understanding the unique dynamics of family enterprises. He was responsible for profitable growth of three divisions to become one of the largest commercial landscape design-build and commercial landscape maintenance operations in Western New York. During that time he also founded U.T.F. Inc. dba Mow More Supplies, a national e-Commerce company, where he remains active today on consulting long range business strategy.

Inspired by a sense of lifelong learning, Tom continued his education when he graduated with distinction with an MBA from State University of New York at Buffalo – School of Management. Tom has spent extensive time understanding the unique dynamics of family business, and he has also gone on to become a Gazelles International Certified Coach. He is a certified trainer for The Basadur Creative Problem Solving Profile, and a Satmetrix Net Promoter Certified Associate.

Tom has consulted with over 350 businesses helping them to implement “next and best practices” in their organizations with special emphasis in the areas of strategy, customer loyalty and work-life balance that many entrepreneurial leaders struggle with.

Currently, Tom serves as an assistant dean of the University at Buffalo School of Management and executive director for the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. Since assuming the role in 2008, Tom has worked with his team to advance the Center’s mission of invigorating the Western New York economy and community through entrepreneurial development. The Center was recently recognized as one of the Top 100 Small Business Influencers in North America.

Tom intimately understands the incredible significance of entrepreneurship to our economy and culture, and he has dedicated his personal and professional work to small business advocacy. Tom is a member of the National Federation for Independent Business Leadership Trust, sits on multiple boards in the community, and has received numerous citations and resolutions recognizing his support for entrepreneurship from U.S. 113th Congress, NYS Governor, NYS Senate, NYS Assembly and local government agencies. He is a frequent author and orator on topics concerning the importance of small business and entrepreneurship to the vitality of the American economy.
